CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Dayna was attempting to go over some contracts in her office when she heard a knock at her office door. “Come in” she said grateful for the excuse to stop staring at the same sentence for the last hour.

Her mind had been on Gio from the moment he screamed at her and stormed out of the house. She’d never meant to offend him in any way. She understood how he could be angry with her for doing something he’d told her not to do. It’d never occurred to her he would be offended. She felt a kinship with Alyssa, being they were both little girls who’d lost their mothers way too soon.

She wanted to be there for Alyssa, help her in any way she could, hopefully become her friend. But not at the cost of alienating Gio from her.

The object of her every thought peeked his head around the door. “Can I come in?” he asked solemnly.

“Oh, yes! Of course!” Dayna was surprised but grateful to see him. She knew she needed to apologize but was unsure where to start.

As he stepped further into the office, she saw what he was holding in his hand that was just outside the door. A beautiful bouquet of pink equestrian roses.

“Umm...I had gotten these for you earlier and got a little side tracked,” he said bashfully.

There were no words for the equal parts joy and confusion she was feeling right now. “T-they are beautiful,” she stammered taking the flowers from him and burying her face in them, inhaling their aroma.

“Dayna, I cannot tell you how sorry I am for the way I spoke to you earlier. It was uncalled for and I had no right to speak to you that way,” Gio stated.

“Oh, no, no...you don’t have to apologize. I shouldn’t have been so presumptuous, I’m sorry I... ” She deserved his anger she had no right to make such assumptions about someone else’s child.

“Stop!” he said silencing her by placing his hand on her soft luscious lips. “You are kind, considerate, and sweet. I had no right to treat you that way. Thank you for what you’ve done for me, my cousin, and my little girl. The end.”

“So is that your way of telling me this discussion is over?” she asked playfully.

“Yes,” he joked.

“Okay, so can you take your fingers off my mouth?” she asked looking up at him.
